law wai sing's review

I have visited “It Takes Four Sorts “exhibition, whose chief curator is Fung Boyi. There are different art pieces within the exhibition. One of the art pieces that I like so much is a video made by Joe Yiu. In the video, the artist uses a special method to bring out her view on the selling method of property business in Hong Kong.

Joe Yiu uses a very cheap 16.4 square foots house to create an ideal home, “King’s cube”, to mock the property businesses by using some humorous words in order to bring out the message that property businesses usually use an exaggerated means to sell their products and also nowadays people always pursue a high-class life style, but they often forget a very important question – what is an ideal home? We have to think about whether we should place ideal and nobility on the same position before we believe the advertisement from the property businesses and follow the current trend to buy a house.

On the other hand, I think the medium of this art piece is specific and attractive; it can give a deep impression on the audience because of the interesting introduction of the “King’s cube”. But there is one thing I dislike. There are many sounds mixing together in the exhibition, although this may be a representation of the artistic exchange of the four places, it disturbs my concentration on certain art piece.
